I understand this is an important investment for you which is why I feel it’s important for you to know exactly what to expect from one of my puppies and the dedication I put into each one of my dogs, preparing them to get the best start in life. I am not selling a puppy I am selling reassurance, structure and lifelong support too. After 25 years of experience it is important for you to know that my heart and soul has gone into every dog and every pup over the years and if accepted I am trusting you with a piece of my legacy, heart and hard work.
Further to my superior puppy training and raising techniques explained in the section before this “how I raise my puppies” all puppies will have been wormed at least three times, will have had their first vet visit and first vaccination, will be microchipped and will have started toilet training, including using puppy pads and outside training. At the vet visit my puppies are extensively health tested at my request above and beyond what is usually required, this is possible as I have an outstanding relationship with my local vet and together we work in sync providing an unrivalled service. A full list of what I ensure is checked can be found below.
The following INTENSIVE HEALTH CHECKs are carried out by a vet before a puppy leaves from Zoe Saunders.
- EYES – Any signs of ulcers, infection and eye conditions such as cherry eye,entripion and any foreign bodies.
- MOUTH – Teeth hygiene, breath, gum colour and capillary refill time(circulation)
- EARS – Signs of infection, parasites, cleanliness, any foreign bodies, hair present (needs plucking)
- NOSE – Discharge, infections, foreign bodies.
- TEMPERATURE – Ensure its within normal range, low points to hypothermia and high points to infection.
- CHEST – Check the lungs are clear, listen for any fluid or cracking, infection.
- HEART – Check heart rate,. Listen for any murmurs or irregular heart patterns.
- ABDOMEN – Check for any visual hernias at inginial and abdomen sites and listen to ensure normal gut sounds. Feel gut for swelling and any signs of discomfort.
- LYMPH NODES – Check that lymph nodes are not enlarged indication infection.
- GENITILIA – Check both testicles are present and there is no discharge from vagina/penis signalling infection. Visual prolapses.
- RESPIRATION – Normal breathing patterns are checked, not laboured or showing effort.
- SKIN – Visually checked for hair loss, parasites, allergies, lumps and bumps, tumors, dullness of fur.
- GAIT/JOINTS/MUSCLE – Does the animal present with a normal gait, any limping, wobbliness etc. Mobility issues such as arthiritis.
- NAILS/FEET – Any sore feet? Lumps between digits indicating foreign bodies.
- WEIGHT – Is the dog a healthy weight? Will also be given a body condition score.
- OTHER – Nutritional assessment and diet covered. Behaviour and training questions are asked.
