Pink Puppies

Dilute, Isabella & Pink Puppies

It is often claimed that dilute dogs and pink dogs are less healthy than those with normal pigment. This misconception has mostly likely come from the prevalence in some breeds of a condition called COLOUR DILUTION ALOPECIA (CDA). Colour dilution alopecia is infact the result of a faulty version of the “d” allele known as dl. Not all breeds carry this faulty allele and the majority of blues and lilacs are completely healthy. There is NO scientific evidence to show that genetically dilute dogs are any different or more prone to health issues. Here are some examples of breeds that carry dilution.

American Staffordshire Terrier, Beagle, Bearded Collie, Border Collie, Borzoi, Canary Dog (Presa Canario), Cane Corso, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Chihuahua, Chocolate Labrador, Chow Chow, Doberman, Finnish Lapphund, Foxhound (American, English), German Pinscher, Great Dane, Greyhound, Harrier, Italian Greyhound, Kelpie, Miniature Pinscher, Mudi, Neapolitan Mastiff, Newfoundland, Otterhound, Peruvian Inca Orchid, Plott Hound, Podengo
Portugueso, Pomeranian, Rat Terrier, Russian Toy Terrier, Schipperke, Shar Pei, Shih Tzu, Slovakian Pointer, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Thai Ridgeback, Tibetan Mastiff, Weimaraner, Whippet and Xoloitzcuintle. So as you can see a lot and it is worth noting that the Weimaraner and Slovakian Pointer only come entirely in dilute and no other colour.

The dilute gene is also notably common in Italian Greyhounds, Whippets, Tibetan Mastiffs and Neapolitan Mastiffs. Whether its dogs, cats, birds or humans we are all different, colour does not define us, we are equal, no matter what colour, life is all about embracing difference.

As a responsible breeder it is always a priority to have good health in all my dogs. Whilst health testing is of course a must for any respectable breeder so is common sense. A good temperament is also just as prevalent in producing puppies to go on into loving families. All of my dogs are fully health tested as well as being thoroughly evaluated on their temperaments before even beginning
to plan their future in breeding.

My dilute, Isabella and pink puppies have been bred with the utmost care and attention, with their health an absolute priority first and foremost. Dilute and pink puppies are considered non breed standard colours and therefore cannot be entered into showing classes under the KC.

While some of my puppies are not a KC registered accepted colour and therefore not eligible for the
show ring, this is a conscious choice rather than a compromise. Not everyone wants to go to Crufts, and my priority has always been to breed healthy, well-balanced companions first and foremost. Health is non-negotiable, and temperament is given far greater importance than
producing a dog purely to meet show standards. My aim is to breed dogs that thrive as family members, working partners, or much-loved companions, not just dogs bred to be looked at.
